Dr. Gaylen Kapperman, coordinator of the Visual Disabilities Program, has secured an $800,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Education for the College's Vision Program.

Dr. Laura HedinLaura Hedin Given NIU Foundation Award for Faculty Excellence

Dr. Hedin, an assistant professor in the Department of Teaching & Learning, was recognized for Faculty Excellence at the NIU Foundation's Red and Black Gala on February 28. Hedin was nominated by student Dana Higgins, who is studying to be a learning behavior specialist in the College's special education program.

Teaching and Learning Professors Continue Preparation of Early Childhood Educators

Thanks to a renewal of their grant, Drs. Maylan Dunn-Kenney and Moses Mutuku will continue their work with the Rockford Early Childhood Education Certification (EC2) Partnership. The grant will be used to help prepare early childhood teachers for schools in the Rockford area.

KNPE Chair Wins Race Across the West

Paul Carpenter, chair of the Department of Kinesiology and Physical Education, recently finished first in a 1,044-mile race from Oceanside, California to Taos, New Mexico.

This is another notable victory on the way to Dr. Carpenter's possible entry to the Race Across America, also known as "the World's Toughest Bicycle Race."
