KNPE Chair Wins Race Across the West

Paul Carpenter, chair of the Department of Kinesiology and Physical Education, recently finished first in a 1,044-mile race from Oceanside, California to Taos, New Mexico.

This is another notable victory on the way to Dr. Carpenter's possible entry to the Race Across America, also known as "the World's Toughest Bicycle Race."

Jeffrey Hecht Named New Associate Dean; Lara Luetkehans Named Interim ETRA Chair

Dean Lemuel Watson is pleased to announce that Dr. Jeffrey Hecht has accepted the position of Associate Dean for Technology, Research, and Faculty Innovation. Dr. Hecht, formerly the department chair of Educational Technology, Research and Assessment (ETRA), began his position on February 1.

Dr. Lara Luetkehans has assumed the position of interim chair of ETRA.


January 2008

Paul Vallas, new superintendent of New Orleans' Recovery School District and former CEO of the Chicago Public Schools, will visit Northern Illinois University on Thursday, January 31, to discuss the state of secondary education in America.

A symposium will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Holmes Student Center and a presentation will be given at 7:00 p.m. in Altgeld Hall Auditorium. Both events are open to the public. Learn more about Paul Vallas.

Interim Counseling, Adult and Higher Education Chair Gene Roth led a team of graduate students on a trip to China to attend the Academy of Human Resource Development’s (AHRD) 6th Annual Asian Conference. Read more about the group's trip.

Dr. Paul CarpenterPaul Carpenter, chair of the Department of Kinesiology and Physical Education, is known around the College for his daily 30-mile bike commute from his suburban Batavia home to DeKalb. But, recently he pushed his physical limits even further as he took on a 500-mile race in the sweltering plains of Texas.
