Advising and Student Services

The College of Education offers professional academic advising for all undergraduate CoE students. (Graduate students should contact their academic departments for advisement.) Alumni Relations

Assessment

The Office of Assessment (OA) provides leadership and coordination pertaining to assessment endeavors in the College of Education (COE). Directed by David Walker, Ph.D., the OA affords support in assessment-related areas such as data analysis, rubrics, scoring scales, templates, standards alignment, NIU conceptual framework alignment, alumni survey data results, and employer feedback. These are important components of the program's protocol for assessing student learning and program improvement.

Blackwell Museum

The Blackwell is a member of the Illinois Association of Museums, the American Association for State and Local History and the headquarters of the Country School Association of America. The Blackwell is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting interest in the history of American education and is sponsored by the College's Department of Leadership, Educational Psychology and Foundations.

Center for Access-Ability Resources

It is the responsibility of the Center for Access-Ability Resources (CAAR) to see that qualified individuals who request services are provided appropriate accommodations in compliance with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Americans with Disabilities Act.

CAAR works toward achieving its mission by:

  • providing direct support services to students with disabilities
  • serving as a resource to other offices in the university, enabling them to more effectively meet the needs of persons with disabilities.

Development

The College's development committee consists of several dedicated friends and alums who organize events and fundraisers for the benefit of the College of Education. Officers are appointed by the dean and are instrumental in facilitating events such as the spring event and silent auction.
The Office of Development relies on its loyal contributors and invites new friends and alumni to join the growing list of donors who enable the College and its students to grow and succeed. Scholarships, program support, equipment and materials purchases, and research and presentation awards are just a few of the ways to demonstrate support for the College.

Learning Center

The Learning Center is located in the lower level of Gabel Hall.  The Center provides a friendly and comfortable learning environment for students, staff, and faculty. It also offers support services as well as classroom, meeting, and study spaces that are both effective and stress-free. Free coffee in the evenings on Monday through Thursday!

Partnerships

The Office of Partnerships in the College of Education strives to advance educational excellence by collaborating with a variety of other schools and organizations.
Its mission is four-fold:

  1. To highlight the existing university and school-based partnerships in each department
  2. To provide a forum to discuss methodology that pertains to initiating and developing partnerships for future partnership sites

Recruitment

The Office of Recruitment Services offers leadership to recruitment and outreach programs for ethnic minority and other underrepresented students in the College of Education. The office provides assistance to prospective and current undergraduate students from admission to graduation. The main focus areas of the office include:

Research, Evaluation, and Policy Studies (REPS)

The REPS office is committed to professional and ethical research in a variety of studies. The REPS staff of seasoned educators and researchers has done studies and analysis for organizations ranging from other educational institutions to government bureaus. Directed by Brent E. Wholeben, Ph.D., the office supports federal, state, and local grants, as well as intramural and extramural evaluation contracts.
